Dionne Scrivens has been reading since she was three years old. In 2020, she decided to try gardening, and loves it. Although she discovered gardening as an adult, Dionne wants children to discover it while they are young. As one who believes that great things are meant to be shared, she created Vocabulary Garden, which pairs her life-long love for reading with her new-found love for gardening – the perfect combination. Through her read-aloud group Vocabulary Garden (based in Southern California), the intention is that Elementary school-aged children in urban areas locally, nationally, and globally, develop a love for reading, to potentially improve literacy rates which will help equip them for success in the future, and a love for gardening, creating a connection with nature, and fostering sustainability.
